If you’re looking for a unique way to add some patriotic decor to your 4th of July party this simple and quick project might be just what you are looking for. I just wanted something cheery, patriotic, and bit country…check check check.
Supplies
- Patriotic fabric – 2 different colors, .5 yard of each (Joann’s Fabric)
- Red ribbon (Joann’s Fabric)
- Rust-oleum Universal – Gloss White (Ace Hardware)
- 16 gauge galvanized steel wire (Ace Hardware)
- Wire cutters
- Fabric scissors
- Hot Glue
Steps
Cut 10 inch segments of wire from spool. I made 6 hearts, but you could make as many as you want and space tightly or further apart.
Using the wire cutters bend at the center of the wire to make the bottom of the heart. and bend in the sides with your hands (I tried using the wire cutters to do this and it left some bumpy edges)
Repeat this until you have enough hearts in your desired shape. It took me a few practice hearts until I got good at the shape I liked.
Spray paint these hearts with the white paint. I did 2 coats on each side with about 45 minutes between coats.
Cut fabric into desired strip size while the spray painted hearts are drying. I cut my fabric into 2×6 inch strips, but they aren’t super dangly or floppy so if you want that look I would go with a 2×10 strip.
Once hearts are dry, glue a 14 inch strip of ribbon onto each side of the heart. Repeat for all the hearts until they are all connected like a ribbon chain.
Tie on 10-14 strips on the ribbon between each heart.
Tie on fabric strips until desired fullness then hang and enjoy! A perfect garland for over your fireplace or to decorate your 4th of July party.
I’m excited to be collaborating with Ace Hardware as part of their Ace Blogger Panel.
Ace has provided me with the Ace Hardware materials for this project (Totes appreciated Ace!), and all opinions are my own.
